A home furnishings retailer has nailed down its first New Jersey location with the completion of a 9,400-square-foot lease in Paramus, in a newly announced transaction by Newmark.
The Minneapolis-based chain, Room & Board, is eyeing a late 2022 or early 2023 opening for the showroom at 762 Route 17. The space within the upscale Paramus Design Center will mark an expansion of the company’s regional footprint, joining a 48,000-square-foot flagship location in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood.
Newmark Managing Director Dean Tselepis brokered the transaction between Room & Board and locally based Laganella Property Management, which is in the process of expanding the property.
“We have a long history of working with the Paramus Design Center as they continue to become a design destination for northern New Jersey,” Tselepis said. “The addition of Room & Board as the first tenant signed to the center’s new expansion site further reinforces the asset as a go-to design hub.”
In announcing the deal, Newmark touted Room & Board as a modern American-made retailer of furniture and home décor whose roots go back to 1980. Its new Paramus showroom will feature room settings meant to inspire, a design center with fabric and material samples, personal service and complimentary design expertise.
At the Paramus Design Center, it will join tenants such as Equinox, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Modani, Natuzzi, Panera and Roche Bobois, which have also come to the site in deals brokered by Newmark. The 135,000-square-foot property is also home to Natuzzi Italia, CB2, The Shade Store, Z Gallerie, and Tempur-Pedic.
“We are committed to providing the highest-quality home furnishings from our unique variety of luxe national and international retailers to service the needs of the region,” said Nicholas Laganella, managing member of LPM. “We are proud to have Room & Board as the anchor tenant at the PDC expansion and expect the remaining 30,000 square feet to be filled with a variety of upscale home furnishing companies to further diversify choices for consumers.”
