J.G. Petrucci Co. Inc. has completed a new 172-unit luxury apartment building in East Orange, having transformed what was a vacant site about two blocks from Interstate 280.
The developer — which built the project in tandem with TD+ Partners, the East Orange Housing Authority and the city — announced the milestone this week at The Station at East Orange, where 30 percent of the homes are reserved as affordable housing. The property at North Walnut and Williams streets has also welcomed its first residents, who are a short walk from NJ Transit’s East Orange station and have access to amenities such as a fitness center, a business center and a community room with a kitchen.
“Petrucci Residential is happy to be a part of the East Orange community and offer transit-oriented luxury apartments close to (New York City),” said Elisha Wolstenholme, executive vice president of multifamily housing for J.G. Petrucci. “Our goal is to offer first-class amenities with attentive service to all our new residents.”
The development team broke ground on the property in fall 2021, with plans that included a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and 3,477 square feet of retail space. The property also has a private terrace courtyard, while residents are within walking distance of retail shops, health care providers and other offerings in the city.
Petrucci, which is based in Asbury, owns and operates more than 2,000 luxury apartments as part of a portfolio that has long included commercial, industrial and retail properties. TD+Partners, for its part, says it has participated in the development of more than 700 units of mixed-income housing, large-scale industrial and educational properties while providing equitable outcomes for community members.
