The developers of the high-profile Print House project in Hackensack have completed its second phase, bringing another 425 luxury apartments to the city’s largest new residential property.
The partnership, which includes Russo Development and The Hampshire Cos., says leasing and move-ins are underway at the final piece of the River Street complex, which occupies the former Bergen Record headquarters site along the Hackensack River. The new units come alongside another 150,000 square feet of amenity space that includes everything from a riverfront pool and outdoor lounge areas to a standalone two-story resident clubhouse, adding to the site’s existing 271 homes and 40,000 square feet of retail space.
Minno & Wasko Architects and Planners was the architect of record for the two phases.
“Adding the final residential component to Print House is a major milestone for us and our partners at Hampshire,” said Adam Pasternack, president of Russo Property Management. “Print House is exceeding all expectations in Hackensack and provides our residents a community with our large campus, unique apartment styles and incredible amenity offerings plus the added convenience of our food and service retail tenants.
“We are very appreciative of the city of Hackensack’s partnership and collaboration to see this project through with us to deliver this multifaceted mixed use residential offering.”
Located directly across from NJ Transit’s Hackensack Bus Terminal, which offers express 30-minute service to New York City, the Print House campus will also include a public park and riverwalk that will be completed in the near future, according to a news release. In the meantime, Russo and Hampshire are seeing continued interest from renters after the project’s first phase was fully leased in under four months, following its completion in 2022.
Phase two has one- and two-bedroom options ranging from 703 to 1,198 square feet, the news release said. Amenities include a rooftop terrace, courtyards and an amphitheater, as well as a lounge and work-from-home spaces inside the new clubhouse.
Meantime, the project’s street-level retail space, designed by Rotwein+Blake, is home to a Hackensack Meridian Health medical clinic, Starbucks, Jersey Mike’s and Blue Foundry Bank, with a new Lidl grocery store set to open in 2025.
“For over 100 years, Hackensack has played a central role in our family’s story,” said James E. Hanson II, CEO and president of Hampshire. “This latest milestone brings us closer to realizing our full vision for a city that is so near and dear to our family and business. We thank our project partners for their continued collaboration, and we look forward to welcoming our future residents to the Second Edition.”
NAI Hanson is fielding interest for the remaining 11,204 square feet of retail space, the news release said. Russo also noted that the 19-acre site is within a federally designated Opportunity Zone, which provides benefits to long-term investors in underserved areas.
“Over the last few years, we have and will continue to deliver on what is truly a distinctive property capturing the vision the city of Hackensack to revitalize the downtown area,” Pasternack said. “We are that much closer to becoming the centerpiece of the city’s waterfront district.”
