Saxum Real Estate has named a new director of development to lead its growing multifamily division, part of a pipeline that has surpassed $1 billion in total capitalization.
The Summit-based firm said the new hire, Brett Rubin, brings more than 20 years of industry experience tied to the entitlement, development and construction of over 4,500 multifamily units. He joins Saxum from Gemdale USA, where he was head of development and was responsible for leading the organization’s East Coast design, development and construction activities.
“With our expanding platform and the associated projects, which are often very complex in nature and becoming more so every day, it is imperative that we continue to find talented professionals to join us as we expand our vertically integrated platform,” said Anthony Rinaldi, Saxum’s founder and managing principal. “Brett’s robust skillset and multifaceted development experiences provide the foundation to lead and elevate our multifamily business on a national scale.”
With Gemdale, Rubin oversaw more than $2.5 billion of ground-up development comprising some 3.7 million square feet in New York City and Boston, according to a news release. Prior to Gemdale, he served in various roles with AvalonBay Communities Inc., developing more than 1.5 million square feet of multifamily property across the tristate area.
Rubin was also a member of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp.’s Planning, Design and Development Department when it led the World Trade Center site redevelopment and the revitalization of the surrounding neighborhood after Sept. 11, 2001, Saxum said.
