The New Jersey Independent Electrical Contractor Association has leased 5,000 square feet of commercial space in Franklin’s Somerset section, in a deal arranged by Sheldon Gross Realty.
According to a news release, the group is using the space at 20 Worlds Fair Drive for a comprehensive training program that enables apprentices to qualify for the more elevated status of journeyman electrician. Sheldon Gross Realty President Marcy Gross and Vice President Eric Weston brokered the lease, citing the building’s proximity to Interstate 287 and access to Rutgers University, downtown New Brunswick, Newark and Morristown.
They also noted that the NJIEC program requires a minimum of 576 hours of classroom instruction, plus 8,000 hours of on-the-job training.
“When you’re securing a property for instruction and training purposes, location is crucial,” Weston said. “You need to be readily accessible to as many prospective students as possible, and that pretty much describes Somerset. Whether one of the association’s apprentices is based north, south, east or west of this site, they’ll be able to get there quickly and easily.”
