A global corporate real estate organization has honored NAI James E. Hanson Chairman Peter Hanson, recognizing him for his more than five decades in commercial brokerage.
The firm announced Wednesday that Hanson had received the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors’ Diamond Anniversary Torch, an accolade that the group debuted in 2016 to mark its 75th anniversary. Hanson, who joined the organization in 1962, has been a member of its board of directors since 1980 and served as its national president in 1985.
He is one of 3,200 brokers globally to hold the SIOR designation and one of 10 at his Hackensack-based real estate services firm.
“SIOR is not solely a designation, it represents the highest professional achievement of the most experienced commercial real estate brokers in the industry,” Hanson said. “I have been proud to hold the designation for over 50 years and am honored to have been selected for this award.
“I look forward to continuing to leverage the experience and knowledge of the SIOR network in my work at NAI Hanson and helping to guide SIOR into its exciting future.”
Hanson also was a recipient of SIOR’s Howell Watson Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993, along with lifetime achievement awards from NAIOP and the Industrial and Office Real Estate Brokers Association. He is just the second person to receive the Diamond Anniversary Torch, which visited all 48 SIOR chapters throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico after being created and will now be passed to an influential member each year.
“My father has mentored countless numbers of commercial real estate professionals over his 55 years of membership in SIOR with no expectation of anything in return,” NAI James E. Hanson Bill Hanson said. “He is the epitome of the professionalism that defines SIOR and has carried the founding ideals of SIOR into his work at NAI James E. Hanson each and every day over his career.”
