Value Cos. has hired former North Caldwell Police Chief Mark Deuer as its construction manager and director of security.
In his new role with the Clifton-based firm, Deuer will lead the team responsible for new development projects in its multifamily portfolio and will oversee the safety of the company’s employees and residents. He recently retired from the North Caldwell Police Department after 13 years as its chief and a 30-year law enforcement career.
“When we saw Mark’s unique skillset as both an organizational leader and an expert in law enforcement, we knew he’d be a great fit for our team,” said Matthew Mirman, executive vice president of Value Cos. “Mark understands how to run a project effectively. He’s already bringing new ideas to the job.
“His experience in law enforcement will allow us to continue to make our properties a safe and wonderful place to live and raise a family. We’re so honored when people choose to live at a Value Companies property, and Mark’s passion to serve the community around him will help ensure our properties deliver to the needs of our residents.”
As police chief, Deuer planned, coordinated and directed the activities of the police department, managed resources and established departmental goals and objectives while delivering public safety services to the community, according to a news release. The firm added that, during his career in law enforcement, he responded to and assisted in rescue efforts after both the Sept. 11 terror attack at the World Trade Center and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
Deuer, the father of two college-age children, attended the Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Law and Public Safety Graduate Degree Program.
