A developer has broken ground on a new 52-unit luxury apartment building in downtown Rutherford, touting a location just two blocks from rail and bus service to Manhattan.
Vango Development joined local officials earlier this week to mark the start of construction at the new building, 106 Park Avenue. With first occupancy slated for spring 2019, the four-story complex will include a mix of units ranging from studios to two-bedrooms, along with 5,000 square feet of street-level retail space.
“We are thrilled to have secured such an ideally-located property for this project, and we appreciate the confidence that Mayor DeSalvo and the Borough of Rutherford have placed in us,” said Van Golemis, a principal of Vango Development, referring to Rutherford Mayor Joseph DeSalvo Jr. “We believe 106 Park Avenue will be a complementary addition to downtown Rutherford, and we look forward to creating a community of value that taps into the property’s full potential.”
The firm most recently developed and leased up the St. George Harrison near the Harrison PATH station, according to a news release. In Rutherford, Vango said it was drawn to a train station that is one stop from Secaucus Junction and less than a 30-minute ride to New York Penn Station.
The firm touted that location, which also offers proximity to Hoboken and the availability of NJ Transit bus service at the station, during a ceremony that also drew Coli Construction and ConnectOne Bank..
Designed by Russell Bodnar, 106 Park Avenue will stretch the width of a city block, with its main entrance and retail space on Park Avenue and a rear entrance and parking garage on Chestnut Street, Vango said. Apartments will feature high-end design and interiors, while residents will have amenities such as a fitness center, lounge and a Doorking intercom system.
Vango has tapped The Marketing Directors as its marketing and leasing agent, also touting Rutherford’s easy access to routes 3 and 17 and other highways.
“I’d like to welcome Van Golemis and Vango Development to Rutherford,” DeSalvo said during a groundbreaking ceremony. “We wish you luck with your new project and your future in Rutherford.”
