Fields Construction Co. has started work at the site of what will be a five-story, 63-unit apartment building on the western edge of Jersey City.
Working on behalf of 16 Bennett Street Urban Renewal LLC, Fields is serving as the general contractor for the project at 16 Bennett St. Plans call for a mix of market-rate units and apartments reserved for moderate-income residents, all of them located across Route 440 from the Hudson Mall and within walking distance of a Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stop.
Construction is slated to be complete by winter 2018, Fields said in a news release.
Casa Blanca Management is the construction manager for the project, which was designed by architecture firm Minervini Vandermark. Fields said the completed property will feature 3,286 square feet of courtyard space, a 2,178-square-foot roof deck and a parking garage.
“This is a great example of the type of project that we seek out,” said Jim Caulfield, principal of Hoboken-based Field. “It will bring high-quality housing to Jersey City’s West Side, and is creating jobs for a significant number of Jersey City residents.”
The property is also within walking distance of Lincoln Park, the West Side Avenue business district and the West Bergen branch of the Jersey City Free Public Library, the news release said.
