The state has recognized Walters for one of the development firm’s newest projects — a 150-unit age- and income- restricted property in the Somerset County borough of Branchburg.
According to the builder, Cornerstone at Branchburg recently won the 2024 Governor’s Excellence in Housing Development Award in the rental project category. The property at Old York Road and Route 202 was among the honorees at the annual conference in Atlantic City, which celebrates outstanding contributions to housing and economic development across New Jersey.
“It’s our true honor to receive this prestigious award,” said Joe Del Duca, partner and director of affordable housing for Walters. “Cornerstone at Branchburg — a sustainable development — offers a much-needed affordable housing option and an enhanced quality of life for seniors in Somerset County.”
The 2024 Governor’s Conference on Housing and Economic Development, featuring a special awards ceremony, took place at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City. Coordinating agencies for the awards include the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Financing Agency and the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority.
Sitting on nearly 12 acres, Cornerstone at Branchburg is designed and constructed to meet the requirements of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design scale and the government’s Energy Star certification. The community includes two three-story buildings for renters 55 and older, with amenities such as a modern fitness center, computer workstations, a pool table and outdoor areas with gas grills.
