Atkins Cos. has leased nearly 10,000 square feet of medical office space in Washington Township to a growing provider of autism-related services in the region.
The tenant, ABA Centers of New Jersey, is the latest at what’s known as the Washington Medical Arts Building at 405 Hurffville-Cross Keys Road. It’s leasing 9,854 square feet at the two-story, 70,140-square-foot property, which Atkins acquired in 2023 and is now modernizing.
ABA Centers, which provides comprehensive applied behavior analysis therapy and autism diagnostic services to children and teens across the state, will use the space as its seventh location alongside offices in Bridgewater, Edison, Hackensack, Hoboken, Monmouth Junction and Mount Laurel.
“We began ABA Centers of New Jersey with a simple goal in mind — reduce wait times for families to help them easily access the autism care their loved ones need,” said Christopher Barnett, founder of ABA Centers. “We are excited to move into our new office at the Washington Medical Arts Building as it will allow us to create a convenient and adaptable space to help us deliver our critical services to residents across southern New Jersey.”
In a news release last week, Atkins said its upgrades of the building include the conversion of a former fitness center on the first floor into 33,000 square feet of clinical medical space. It’s also creating some 7,700 square feet of leasable space by filling in the former two-story area of the fitness center.
Beyond the additional space, the project also includes major upgrades to the building’s common areas on both floors with new lighting, ceilings, flooring, paint and wallcovering, furniture, artwork and plantings, as well as new interior digital building directories, the news release said. Also on tap are the addition of new common area restrooms and remodeling of the building’s existing restrooms.
Atkins, meantime, is making exterior improvements such as upgraded building signage and a new monument sign, an ADA-compliant front entry ramp and an enhanced door access and security system.
“To find success in today’s market, medical office buildings must balance the needs of traditional healthcare users with those of growing specialty practices like ABA Centers of New Jersey,” said Cory Atkins, principal of Atkins Cos. “We look forward to welcoming them to the Washington Medical Arts Building and we are confident it will be the ideal space to support their work for years to come.”
