Atkins Cos. has kicked off its renovation of a 120,000-square-foot medical office building in West Orange located across from the Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center.
The firm, which is eyeing a March completion date, said the project at 101 Old Short Hills Road will further update a facility that was built in 1983. Its plans call for modernizing the common areas and restrooms on the building’s second, fourth and fifth floors to better meet the needs of health care providers and patients.
The structure known as Atkins Kent 101 has three stretcher-accessible elevators, ample patient parking with handicapped spaces, automatic doors, canopied entries for patient dropoff and a modern design featuring a two-story lobby with granite flooring, according to a news release. It also benefits from its location adjacent to RWJBarnabas Health’s corporate offices.
“Our nearly 40 years of ownership at Atkins Kent 101 exemplifies how our collaborative and proactive approach to property management enables us to continually create health care spaces that support the vital care services our tenants provide to the local communities,” said Chick Atkins, managing principal at Atkins Cos. “Through this capital improvement plan, we are confident that we will be further enhancing Atkins Kent 101’s standing as the area’s premier medical office building, and a place our health care tenants can continue to be proud to call home for years to come.”
