Real estate services firm Avison Young has hired a 25-year industry veteran as its new vice president of retail brokerage in New Jersey.

The firm on Thursday announced the addition of Joseph DeFeo, who will help it grow its regional retail services platform. He will represent both landlords and retail tenants in their space needs, having most recently worked as the director of leasing for The Network Realty Group.
“We are thrilled to help build and lead our retail brokerage platform at Avison Young in New Jersey,” said Jeffrey L. Heller, Avison Young principal and managing director of New Jersey. “Joseph has a proven track record of success and his diverse skill set and years of experience will add tremendous value to our team.
“His appointment also demonstrates our commitment towards developing our retail platform and will further enhance the services we provide to existing and new clients.”
DeFeo has extensive retail brokerage experience in both New Jersey and New York, the firm said in a news release. With The Network Realty Group, he was responsible for a portfolio of more than 1 million square feet of privately owned retail, office and industrial properties.
He previously served as a senior retail leasing representative at Levin Management Corp., in addition to earlier roles as senior leasing representative for The Heller Group and as the leasing representative for The Hampshire Cos.
DeFeo has closed transactions with well-established national retailers such as Sears Outlet, Joyce Leslie, Bertucci’s, NY & Co., The Gap and several others, Avison Young said. He has been a New Jersey licensed real estate broker since 1999 and is a member of International Council of Shopping Centers.
He holds a degree in business administration from Seton Hall University.
