Avison Young has named a new principal in the region as the latest addition to its team of commercial real estate brokers.

David Sherman, who boasts more than 40 years of industry experience, will be based in the firm’s Norwalk, Connecticut office but will serve a territory that also includes northern New Jersey and New York’s Westchester County. He will focus on multimarket tenant representation, specializing in the office and industrial sectors.
“David is one of the most well-recognized and prolific tenant rep brokers in the tristate suburban market with a 40-year solid track record of office and industrial transactions, particularly in the New Jersey market,” said Jeffrey Heller, an Avison Young principal and the firm’s New Jersey managing director. “I am excited that David will be joining our team and for the strategic business development approach he will bring to Avison Young.”
Sherman will lead business development efforts by working collaboratively with the Avison Young New Jersey and Connecticut offices and across the U.S. to identify new opportunities in the industrial and office sectors, according to a news release. The firm said he has completed some of the largest commercial leasing and sales transactions in the country and is currently handling more than 2 million square feet of tenant representation assignments for various Fortune 500 companies.
In his previous role, Sherman has collaborated with national colleagues on real estate assignments across the U.S., with a total transaction value exceeding $1 billion in leasing and sales.
“Avison Young’s rapidly growing tristate presence and people-first culture made it a clear choice for me as the next move in my career,” Sherman said. “I look forward to partnering with my colleagues across the region and tapping into Avison Young’s innovative resources to provide cutting-edge, customized solutions that address our clients’ real estate needs.”
The firm detailed some of Sherman’s most notable deals, which include AT&T’s 350,000-square-foot lease on Red Hill Road in Middletown, Valeant Pharmaceuticals’ 620,000-square-foot lease at 300 and 400 Crossing Blvd. in Bridgewater and McCarter & English LLP’s 175,000-square-foot headquarters lease at 4 Gateway Center in Newark. He is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York and was involved in the Associate Broker Development Education and Training Program at his previous firm.
“We are thrilled to have David join Avison Young’s tristate team,” said Dorothy Alpert, a principal and AY’s tristate president. “His extensive leadership and multimarket knowledge bring added value to the firm’s brokerage platform as we expand our client service offerings across the suburban tristate region.”
