An affordable housing builder has opened the doors to its latest project, a newly renovated 75-unit apartment building in East Orange that will soon feature new amenities.
The firm, Blue Onyx Management, recently welcomed the first residents at the building known as 18 Summit Street Apartments. Some 40 percent of the units are leased, with the building offering a mix of 67 studios and eight one-bedroom apartments.
Blue Onyx said it oversaw a major renovation of the prewar building that led to improvements in unit interiors, common areas, heating systems, the building exterior and surrounding grounds. The Paterson-based firm also cited an effort to provide modern finishes while maintaining the historic character of the building.
Additional amenities such as on-site laundry with Wi-Fi and a fitness center will be available this summer.
In a news release, Blue Onyx said it carried out the project with an eye toward offering reasonably priced housing. Studios start at $670, while one bedroom apartments start at $1095.
“With the cost of living rising, many renters are looking for housing options that are efficient in size but at the same time do not compromise on quality or amenities,” said Carolyn Bollettieri of Blue Onyx. “Our apartments meet this need for people who work in the area or commute outside of East Orange.
“Additionally, we see the revitalization of the East Orange area as the perfect location for investment and continued growth.”
The complex is located within walking distance of major train and bus lines and has easy access to shopping, schools and neighborhood services.
