A collection of nearly 500 luxury rentals is taking shape just outside Jersey City’s Journal Square district, with preleasing underway and residents set to arrive as soon as this summer.
Known as West Side Square, the project at 1075 West Side Ave. is nearing completion in the city’s Marion neighborhood. That will include not only 477 homes ranging from studios to three-bedroom, townhome-style rentals, but ground-floor retail space and a vibrant public piazza.
West Side Square Development Fund, a four-partner team comprised of Lanterra Developments, Westdale Properties, Lantree Developments and Altree Developments, is spearheading the project with a design and construction team that includes MHS Architecture and Sordoni Construction Co. Greystar will oversee property management and leasing.
“West Side Square marks the arrival of a new kind of residential destination in Jersey City, intentionally designed around community, connection and flow,” said Raphael Mandelbaum, a principal at Lantree Developments. “Every aspect of this space was thoughtfully designed to create natural interaction points between residents, visitors and the surrounding neighborhood. We look forward to welcoming residents to experience the authentic character and energy of Jersey City’s West Side in the months to come.”

According to a news release, West Side Square will have an expansive rooftop with a pool, lounge areas, grilling stations and an outdoor screening space. Indoor amenities will include a high-end fitness center, a yoga room, a podcast studio, pet-friendly spaces, bike storage and guest suites, among others.
Residents, meantime, will have use of a 285-space parking garage and easy access to nearby regional highway corridors. They’ll also be minutes from the Journal Square Transportation Center and the district’s growing selection of restaurants, retail and nightlife.
“From the moment prospective residents step into West Side Square, they will experience something that feels truly different from anything else in Jersey City right now,” said Alina Tafa, a senior regional manager, real estate, at Greystar. “Every detail from the thoughtfully designed residences and elevated amenities to the welcoming public spaces throughout the property was created to foster connection and deliver a more community-oriented living experience. West Side Square redefines what coming home in Jersey City can feel like.”
