RL Cold and BentallGreenOak have broken ground on a nearly 216,000-square-foot cold storage warehouse in Mount Laurel, with Greek Design|Build spearheading construction on their behalf.
According to a news release, the facility at 907 Pleasant Valley Ave. will accommodate temperatures ranging from -10 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit with four variable temperature compartments. Plans also call for a dedicated USDA inspection area, 27 dock positions outfitted with a sanitary dock pit, vertical dock levelers, vehicle truck restraints and a 5,000-square-foot storage mezzanine.
East Brunswick-based Greek Design|Build is the project’s general contractor, noting that it will be certified under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design scale. That dovetails with comments by BGO Vice President of Development Michael Adkins, who spoke at the recent groundbreaking and emphasized the “critical need for high-quality, sustainable facilities that support the transport of essential products like farm-fresh produce and sensitive medications within the supply chain.”
Part of a joint venture between RealtyLink and BentallGreenOak, the team is developing the 215,766-square-foot facility on a speculative basis.
“We chose to work with a local builder who could bring a depth of experience working within this community, and partnering with Greek has been immensely positive for this project so far,” said Josh Lewis, chief operator officer of RL Cold. “Construction is already on-track to wrap on-time and under-budget.”
Steve Chick, director of preconstruction at Greek Design|Build, added: “We are honored to be involved in an innovative project that also allows us to advance it through the cost-effective and time-saving design-build process. This facility will stand out in the market as a highly flexible state-of-the-art cold storage option.”
