Greek Development has revealed new details of its plan to bring modern industrial space to the former Nabisco plant site in Fair Lawn, where demolition is well underway.
An application filed by the developer shows a proposal for a 644,075-square-foot building at the junction of Route 208 and McBride Avenue. According to the document, the repurposed site would include parking for 256 cars and 120 trailers, along with 102 loading spaces on a property just south of the Glen Rock border.
Multiple outlets including CoStar and NorthJersey.com have reported on the preliminary and final site plan application by CLPF Greek Fair Lawn LLC, an affiliate of East Brunswick-based Greek Development. The news comes around 16 months after the firm closed on its nearly $147 million purchase of the 39-acre property, a local landmark during Nabisco’s more than six decades of operation at the site.
Parent company Mondelēz Global closed the plant in summer 2021, resulting in the loss of about 600 jobs. Demolition began around late January, according to NorthJersey.com, which said the developer hopes to start construction on the new warehouse this summer, pending local approval.
David Greek, a managing partner with Greek Development, also told the outlet that it’s poised to be a speculative project. He noted that the number of jobs created would depend on the tenant and use of the space, but “we anticipate a large number of jobs created by the development” due to the labor-intensive nature of modern logistics buildings.
The application, which lists Langan as its civil engineer, reportedly was filed in late January. Fair Lawn Mayor Kurt Peluso suggested the borough was eager to see the project succeed in order to help spark new economic activity at such a large site.
“We’re just happy that we had someone that’s eager to move in really quick,” Peluso told NorthJersey.com. “We’re excited about the potential for new jobs in the area. When you have a facility that large, the employees often visit the restaurants that are nearby.”
