A developer is moving ahead with plans to raze and redevelop an aging retail property in Wayne, paving the way for a new 79,540-square-foot ShopRite that will open next fall.
Crossroads Cos. LLC announced that it has entered into a long-term ground lease with Levco Associates, the owner of the Wayne Hills Mall at Berdan Avenue and Hamburg Turnpike. Work is now underway to demolish a vacant 103,000-square-foot building within the shopping center as part of a redevelopment plan approved in 2016.
Inserra, which currently operates a ShopRite at Regency Centers’ nearby Plaza Square shopping center, will relocate to the new location. Site work and building construction will begin in spring 2019, Crossroads said, with completion slated for prior to Thanksgiving 2019.

“We are pleased to conclude a deal with Inserra Supermarkets,” said Steve Hittman, CEO of Crossroads, noting that the relocation will provide Wayne’s 55,000 residents with a new, larger store with upgraded amenities.
“This is an excellent location that provides ease of access and ample parking, and it will allow ShopRite to expand its produce, organic and other product offerings.”
Upon completion, Crossroads will re-let Inserra ShopRite’s existing 60,000-square-foot store at 625 Hamburg Turnpike.
