Local officials turned out last week to mark the opening of 381 new luxury apartments in Harrison, the latest addition to a sprawling rental community in the town.
Known as Harrison Urby, the property has grown to some 1,060 apartments over five years thanks to the work of several well-known developers. The newest phase at 200 Angelo Cifelli Drive opened for leasing last fall, offering a mix of floorplans ranging from studios to three-bedroom units with rents starting from $2,125.
“On behalf of council, I am proud to welcome this new building at Harrison Urby to the community,” Harrison Mayor James A. Fife said during a March 3 ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Urby, Ironstate Development, Pegasus Group and Brookfield Properties have been prolific developers in Harrison and a major catalyst for the redevelopment of the waterfront. Their investment has delivered PILOT revenue, brought in new residents, and contributed to the renaissance of our town, which began in the 1990s.”
Located near the town’s PATH station and within its vast waterfront redevelopment zone, Urby is part of a residential concept that has grown throughout the tristate area. The latest phase in Harrison has expanded the complex’s existing amenity spaces with the addition of a new fitness center with a full-size indoor basketball court, a European-inspired all-day café known as Charley and an Urby Library for residents with flexible work schedules.
“We’re excited to expand this transformative residential concept in Harrison at a time when demand for smartly-designed apartments and vibrant social spaces in urban locations near mass transit is on the rise,” said David Barry, founder and CEO of Urby. “This new building introduces the next level of the Urby experience.”
The developers also detailed other new features, such as a studio apartment design with a built-in platform bed and airy wood-slat partitions to create more privacy, while allowing in ample natural light. Other features include keyless smart phone entry, Amazon package lockers and other technology systems.
Designed by the Amsterdam-based firm Concrete, Harrison Urby features a series of buildings that are connected by landscaped green spaces with lawns and walkways designed by Bureau Bas Smets, according to the developers. Residents have access to a community garden with individual vegetable plots, a heated swimming pool and patio, along with a dog run, a rentable chef’s kitchen used to host food events and a two-story, 6,000-square-foot fitness center.
