A leading New Jersey business organization has recognized Kimmerle Newman Architects for its design of a biotech firm’s new headquarters in downtown Jersey City.
The practice announced that it has earned the New Jersey Business & Industry Association’s New Good Neighbor Award, which highlighted the design of Scynexis’ new 19,725-square-foot office at One Evertrust Plaza. Kimmerle oversaw the effort to furnish, brand and interior design the office and plan for the company’s growth, working closely with CBRE.
The design firm, which has offices in Harding Township and Manhattan, said Scynexis’ move was driven by Jersey City’s proximity to New York and its access to natural light. Kimmerle embraced both features by creating interior glass front offices and putting work areas, a lounge and meeting rooms along the windows, allowing for panoramic views of Lower Manhattan throughout the office.
The space also features branding with Scynexis’ colors and value statements, Kimmerle said in a news release. Other features include conference rooms on each of the suite’s four corners, which are named Fire, Ice, Water and Earth to recognize the balance of the key elements.
“By strategically finding the optimal space for Scynexis, we were able to keep the company’s culture intact by providing a collegial atmosphere,” said Paul Newman, vice president and partner of Kimmerle. “There is a large central common area right off the lobby which is central to the entire office for gatherings, meetings, working, and dining. The space is big enough to have multiple activities going on, but also has the flexibility and functionality so that it can work for events and town halls for the full staff.”
The firm also won a Good Neighbor Award for a project to convert a three-story, 36,389-square-foot office building at 111 Littleton Road in Parsippany from a tired, Class C building into a modern Class A structure.
“As designers, ensuring the best possible experience for our clients is important to us and we are committed to maintaining Kimmerle’s position as a leader in the office design community,” said George Kimmerle, founding president and partner of Kimmerle Group.
