A new restaurant has opened its doors and two more are on the way at Newport, the still-growing mixed-use neighborhood along the Hudson waterfront in Jersey City.
The developer and owner, LeFrak Commercial and Newport Associates Development Co., announced Monday that Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Menya Sandaime and Los Cuernos have committed to the 600-acre community. Menya Sandaime, a Japanese restaurant, celebrated its soft opening earlier this month, while Los Cuernos and Ruth’s Chris are slated to open in the coming months.
“Newport is becoming a true culinary destination, and the addition of these three diverse dining options further establishes that Newport is not only a great place to live, but also a great place to eat,” said Ray Kawas, leasing director for Newport. “Ruth’s Chris, Menya Sandaime and Los Cuernos each offer a distinct culinary experience that will appeal to the many people who live, work and visit Newport.”
Menya Sandaime, which serves ramen dishes featuring homemade noodles, has leased 3,600 square feet 564 Washington Blvd. The space is its second location beyond its Fort Lee restaurant.
Ruth’s Chris is slated to open early this summer in an 11,750-square-foot space at 499 Washington Blvd., LeFrak said in a news release. Described as a “comfortably elegant” setting, the restaurant will include a spacious bar, main dining room, four private dining rooms and two outdoor patios.
Los Cuernos is a Mexican restaurant that will open in April, the news release said. The eatery has signed a lease for 5,622 square feet space, also at 499 Washington Blvd.
“Newport is an amazing place, known for its thoughtful design, for adding vibrancy to Jersey City, and for offering fast access to both Manhattan and surrounding areas,” said Glenn Beyer, senior managing director at RKF.
The new operators will join the restaurants that serve Newport’s 5,500 residences and more than 6 million square feet of office space for major employers such as JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, Fidelity Investments, L’Oreal and Forbes.
