Mandelbaum Salsburg PC has deepened its bench of environmental lawyers with one of its newest additions.
The law firm, which is based in Roseland, announced Thursday that it has hired Jeffrey W. Cappola as a member. Cappola, who has been ranked by Chambers USA as one of the state’s leading environmental lawyers, has more than 25 years of experience guiding businesses and developers through complex brownfield and landfill redevelopment projects, land use issues and environmental compliance and permitting.
He joins Mandelbaum Salsburg from Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, where he was a shareholder, the firm said. His arrival strengthens Mandelbaum Salsburg’s environmental law practice group, which is co-chaired by members Douglas Eilender and Gordon Duus.
In a news release, the firm noted that Cappola also has significant experience helping steel and chemical manufacturers comply with federal and state environmental laws. In his real estate development practice, he advises clients on property due diligence, acquisitions and sales, financing, permitting, liability protection, environmental insurance and cost recovery and contribution litigation related to the purchase of contaminated property.
Cappola also works with state and federal agencies to obtain land use permits for development projects in coastal areas, tidelands, flood hazard areas, wetlands and wetland mitigation banks, the news release said. Additionally, he litigates environmental insurance coverage disputes, New Jersey Spill Compensation and Control Act claims and Superfund claims, while defending clients against enforcement actions by the state Department of Environmental Protection.
