Falak Shahid has joined McManimon Scotland & Baumann LLC as an associate with its commercial real estate practice, one of two new additions to the Roseland-based firm.
Prior to joining MS&B, Shahid specialized in general corporate and finance matters at Hogan Lovells, where she worked with both public and private clients, according to her bio. She dealt with a broad range of corporate and securities matters including mergers and acquisitions, public and private debt and equity offerings and general corporate governance, while providing guidance to clients on compliance with securities law and Securities and Exchange Commission reporting.
Shahid also worked as a judicial fellow for Judge Stella M. Tsai in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, MS&B said. She gained practical experience through her roles as a summer associate at Hogan Lovells, a finance and contracts intern with the Philadelphia Law Department and a judicial intern with U.S. District Court Judge Margo K. Brodie for the Eastern District of New York.
The firm added that Shahid, who earned her juris doctor from the University of Pennsylvania, is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York.
MS&B’s other recent addition, John Derek Stern, concentrates his practice in bankruptcy, corporate restructuring, debtor and creditor rights, assignment for the benefit of creditors and commercial litigation, the firm said. While earning his J.D. from Rutgers Law School in Newark in 2019, he worked as a paralegal in the foreclosure litigation unit at McCalla Raymer Leibert Pierce LLC.
Stern has interned for U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Vincent F. Papalia and in the legal department for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, having also clerked for New Jersey Superior Court Judge Philip M. Freedman. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York and the United States District Court of New Jersey.
