An architecture firm has unveiled the design of a new luxury rental community next to the Harrison PATH station, where a developer is planning 640 units and retail space.
The firm, NK Architects, is overseeing the design on behalf of Heller Urban Renewal LLC. The 10.5-acre project at 700 Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. calls for redeveloping a former brownfield site and is slated to deliver four five-story wood-frame buildings and one 11-story pour-in-place concrete tower.
Plans also include 17,000 square feet of street-level retail space, NK Architects said. The project is known as The Hub at Harrison Station.
In a news release, the Morristown-based firm said the buildings and streetscapes were designed to evoke a sense of history and place specific to the past industrial use of the site. Replicated traditional brick loft architecture will be complemented with modern fiber and metal panels to provide balance of the past and the future, while painted exposed steel awnings and balconies will complete the design at the street and sidewalk edge.
The design also includes an open urban green space at the center of the development, accessible from Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard, serving residents of both the complex and the town.
