An acclaimed ramen brand with a global footprint is coming to Jersey City with a new ground-floor restaurant at 505 Summit, a gleaming luxury apartment tower by Panepinto Properties.
The eatery, which is slated to open in fall 2026, will be MENSHO’s first East Coast location after launching in Japan more than two decades ago, according to a news release. The business will occupy part of the building’s 3,200 square feet of retail space alongside a new public plaza created by Panepinto, serving both residents of the 605-unit high-rise and the broader community.
It will also add to a Journal Square neighborhood long known for its diverse and active food scene, the developer said.
“At 505 Summit, our goal was to create a building that feels connected to Journal Square, not just physically but as part of what’s happening in the neighborhood day to day,” said Joseph A. Panepinto Sr., CEO and president of Panepinto Properties. “MENSHO is a great example of that. They bring something truly distinctive to the retail space, and it’s the kind of operator that serves as an extended amenity for our residents and the wider community.”
Founded in Tokyo by chef Tomoharu Shono, MENSHO has expanded globally with locations across Japan, the United States, Australia and Thailand under concepts including MENSHO, Menya Shono and MENSHO TOKYO, according to a news release. Diners will choose from a menu of elevated ramen dishes with house-made noodles and carefully developed broths and flavors, the company said, citing its “farm to bowl” philosophy that emphasizes sourcing high-quality ingredients and developing location-specific concepts designed to reflect the surrounding community and culture.
“Opening in New Jersey as our first East Coast location is a meaningful step for us,” said Tomoharu Shono, CEO of MENSHO Inc. “We’ve expanded in places like San Francisco, Hawaii and Singapore, but each new city brings its own culture and expectations around food. That’s what excites us about Journal Square. It’s a neighborhood where many cultures meet, and we felt we could really grow here — not just bring MENSHO as it exists today but evolve it with the community. Through each bowl, our goal is simple: to create something that feels honest, welcoming and connected to the people who experience it.”
Designed by HLW International, 505 Summit has a mix of homes ranging from studios to three-bedroom floorplans, with monthly rents starting from the $3,100s. Panepinto is now welcoming residents to the 54-story tower, its latest project during decades of development in Journal Square and Jersey City overall, which provides sweeping Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty views and expansive amenity spaces.
The arrival of MENSHO reflects continued investment in Journal Square, reinforcing the neighborhood’s position as one of Jersey City’s most active mixed-use districts, the developer said. Alongside new residential projects, the area has seen steady expansion in dining, retail, arts and cultural offerings, thanks in part to the strong regional connectivity provided by the Journal Square PATH station.
