A frozen custard chain has opened its doors in downtown Somerville, under an 800-square-foot lease with property owner Paramount Assets.
In a news release, the landlord announced the arrival of Meadows Original Frozen Custard at 92 West Main St. The franchise location is the latest among more than two dozen for the Duncansville, Pennsylvania-based operator, which sells frozen custard, frozen yogurt and other menu items.
“This retail property is situated on a busy downtown block and has a very high intrinsic value, and it generated tremendous interest from many potential tenants,” said Samir Guzman, Paramount’s executive director of leasing and marketing, who arranged the lease. “We have a certain vision for this building, and the challenge was tying this vision with Somerville’s desire to attract high-quality retailers and restaurants.
“Our goal was to find a concept with an established track record but not necessarily a national name — that hybrid is difficult to find but, ultimately, Meadows was the perfect fit. We expect this tenant to enjoy tremendous success at this location.”
Guzman touted the importance of attracting franchise businesses to its downtown properties as part of a diverse tenant mix, due in part to its ability to work with municipalities. He added that Paramount is “always cognizant of developing a retail environment in which both tenants and the town can be mutually successful.”
Meadows Original Frozen Custard, which churns fresh batches of frozen custard daily, also serves shakes and sundaes, smoothies and Italian ice, the news release said.
“Meadows is a place where family and friends get together to enjoy everyone’s favorite dessert and we wanted to bring that same atmosphere to downtown Somerville,” said Thomas Vigneault, co-owner. “Our goal is to offer the best and most authentic homemade frozen custard to our customers.”
