Russo Development has launched leasing at a new 296-unit high-end apartment building in Garwood, seeking to lure renters to a site that is steps from commuter rail service.
Located at 450 South St., the property is the latest to open under the firm’s Vermella brand. Monthly rents at the collection of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes start in the $2,300s, with incentives, as Russo prepares to welcome residents in December.
“We are thrilled to bring Vermella to Garwood in Union County,” said Adam Pasternack, president of Russo Property Management, which has delivered and manages eight other Vermella communities throughout the region. “Garwood is a wonderful, close-knit community with a walkable downtown and great access to a myriad of shopping, dining and community services, as well as public transportation. Vermella complements the existing appeal of the neighborhood with a lifestyle-driven experience at an exceptional value.”
Vermella at Garwood Station, which was designed by Minno & Wasko Architects and Planners, has helped revitalize the former site of a large industrial property. Russo is now looking to capitalize on the site’s location adjacent to NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley Line, offering upscale apartments and 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenity space.
Those offerings include a resort-style pool and sundeck with outdoor grills and a movie wall, according to a news release. Inside, residents have access to a clubroom with game tables and a media center, a multisport simulator, a business and co-working center and a modern fitness center, among other features.
Russo is also planning a calendar of social events for residents and 19,500 square feet of street-level retail, which it says will house a café, a restaurant and other convenience operators. Meantime, it’s marketing the property’s location near the downtowns of both Westfield and Cranford and highways such as the Garden State Parkway and routes 27 and 22.
