Engineering firm Structural Workshop is marking its 20th anniversary, touting its history of serving real estate and construction clients in and around New Jersey.
The practice, which began in a basement closet in 2004, said it has spent the past two decades expanding and refining its services. It’s marking its latest company milestone while acknowledging the evolving landscape of building regulations and safety standards, the firm said, noting that recent incidents of building collapses have underscored the importance of proactive maintenance and inspection protocols and prompted jurisdictions across the country to enact stringent measures to ensure structural integrity and public safety.
Key developments in that regard include:
- Mandatory inspections for condo buildings in New Jersey, with subsequent inspections required every five years
- Requirements for reserve studies and funding in accordance with new laws in New Jersey
- Annual inspections for buildings with street-facing parapets in New York City, in addition to existing façade inspection requirements
- Completion of structural inspection cycles in Jersey City (facades and structures) and New York City (parking garages), with proposed changes to the city’s parking garage inspection program
- Continuation of statewide structural and electrical safety inspection programs in Florida
In detailing the new industry landscape, Structural Workshop said it has navigated challenges and triumphs with the help of both its employees and its clients.
