Dave’s Hot Chicken has picked Kearny for its second New Jersey location after agreeing to a lease with Urban Edge Properties.
According to ownership, the fast-growing chain will occupy 2,316 square feet at Kearny Commons at 175 Passaic Ave. The new store is slated to open in the second quarter of 2024, when it will join a host of national retailers at the 123,345-square-foot property.
CBRE’s Jay Miller represented Urban Edge and assisted in the lease-up of Kearny Commons, which the real estate investment trust has expanded in recent years by adding 20,000 square feet of inline store space adjacent to an existing Marshalls and LA Fitness. With the deal, the new space and the property are 100 percent leased.
“Dave’s Hot Chicken is one of the hottest concepts right now and it is a terrific addition to Kearny Commons,” said Justin Lustig, vice president of leasing for Urban Edge. “With the recent redevelopment, this property has attracted a strong mix of new tenants to deliver a convenient and compelling experience for our customers.”
Dave’s Hot Chicken specializes in hot chicken sliders and tenders, along with sides of house-made kale slaw, creamy mac and cheese and crispy, seasoned fries, according to a news release. The brand began six years ago as a parking lot pop-up and drew lines around the block, thanks in part to a loyal following on social media.
Its newest location will be just outside Newark, where Urban Edge benefits from a high population density and strong demand for retail services. Other tenants at Kearny Commons include Ulta Beauty, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, AT&T and European Wax Center.
