AvalonBay Communities Inc. has completed its new 221-unit multifamily project in Princeton, where it has redeveloped the site of two outdated, obsolete office buildings near Route 206.
The company last week joined its project team and local officials at Avalon Princeton Circle, which boasts a mix of rental townhomes with garages and apartments across multiple buildings off Terhune Road. That includes a subset of affordable family rental units, as well as five homes designated for adults with special needs, in a location that is less than two miles from downtown Princeton and Princeton University.
“AvalonBay is overjoyed to commemorate the grand opening of Avalon Princeton Circle and very pleased with the excellent working relationship that has been established with all Princeton stakeholders,” said Ron Ladell, a senior vice president with the company, welcoming elected officials, municipal staff and members of the community. “AvalonBay prides itself on the quality of our communities and we look forward to providing Avalon Princeton Circle residents with a truly remarkable living experience combining best-in-class amenities with an ideal location.”
The project is the second in the town for the publicly traded company, which recently broke ground on a third nearby. More than 110 guests were on hand for last week’s ribbon-cutting, which highlighted a complex that is within walking distance of the grocery-anchored Princeton Shopping Center.
“We are pleased to welcome another AvalonBay community into our town and look forward to our continued partnership,” Mayor Mark Freda said. “I would like to thank all the elected officials who worked out the details of our agreement for this development with AvalonBay.”
Residents have access to amenities such as a pool and deck area, an outdoor fireplace, grills and a covered, heated dining patio, along with a clubhouse and lounge with multiple seating areas, the developer said. Those include private work-from-home pods and large banquettes, as well as a separate kitchenette area and a modern fitness center with a yoga studio.
AvalonBay added that it was pursuing Energy Star certification and designation on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design scale. Meantime, it has partnered with the ARC of Mercer County to provide support services for residents of the units designated for those with special needs.
“It is a true privilege to welcome you to our second community in Princeton, with our third under construction just down the road at the Princeton Shopping Center,” said Matt Giammanco, a senior director of development with AvalonBay. “We do not take this opportunity for granted, and truly appreciate the collaboration with all the elected officials, past and present, and municipal staff to create this unique, mixed residential environment.”
