A developer has opened the doors to a new 232-unit luxury apartment complex in Belleville, marking the completion of its first project in New Jersey.
The Baltimore-based firm, Klein Enterprises, joined local officials and other stakeholders last week to unveil the five-story property at 165 Belmont Ave. It did so having already leased nearly 90 percent of what’s known as SilverLake Apartments, thanks in part to its upscale amenities and a location adjacent to Newark Light Rail service.
“We’re thrilled to officially open at SilverLake and are grateful to our partner Black Oak Associates and our general contractor March Associates Construction for their collaboration on this project, which as of today is 87 percent leased,” Daniel Klein, president of Klein Enterprises, said in a prepared statement this week. “We’d also like to thank the elected officials of Belleville for their support and warm welcome into their beautiful community. As our first development in New Jersey, SilverLake represents the next phase of our growth strategy as we look to expand further into the state and throughout the East Coast.”

The milestone comes a year after Klein, whose existing portfolio includes some 2,500 multifamily units and more than 2.5 million square feet of commercial properties, detailed its entrance to New Jersey as part of a well-capitalized expansion. Its plans in Belleville also called for 20,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, offering a location near Newark’s Branch Brook Park and Clara Maass Medical Center.
The property, which is less than 15 miles from Manhattan, also sits within one of New Jersey’s most densely populated regions.
“The SilverLake was a great project for us from start to finish,” said Bryan Murray, director of business development with March Associates. “We really enjoyed being part of the team with Klein Enterprises and Black Oak Associates. Their shared vision and attention to detail made for a great build and the end result gives Belleville a development that will truly enhance the quality of life for the entire community.”
New Jersey remains a draw for out-of-state developers — despite the hurdles
