The annual Cornhole for a Cause charity event is less than three weeks away, as organizers look to support an important cause with the help of New Jersey’s commercial real estate sector.
Spearheaded by Bohler, a major player in the state’s architecture, engineering and construction industry, the tournament will take place Thursday, May 2, at Tranquillity Farm in Chester. This year’s program will support United Way of Northern New Jersey and its focus on financial equity for what the nonprofit describes as ALICE households — those who are asset-limited, income-constrained and employed — and those in poverty.
Cornhole for a Cause has raised more than $340,000 for local charities since its inception in 2015. Organizers this year have set out to raise $100,000 with the promise of camaraderie and good food and drinks at an event that has become a tradition for many in the industry.
“I am honored to be part of this event each year,” said Chris Johnson of Evos Construction and co-founder of Cornhole for a Cause. “It is incredibly rewarding to see the industry come together to support these different causes.”
Johnson and his fellow co-founder, Bohler’s Dave Wisotsky, have noted that the tournament originated as a friendly cornhole competition between two firms, which routinely held internal tournaments, before growing into a sponsored program that brings together professionals from across New Jersey’s design and construction industry. It grew as both Johnson and Wisotsky leveraged their connections to bring vendors together.
Beyond raising funds, the event now fosters essential networks that strengthen the industry as a whole, the founders said.
“Building networks that create value for our clients is a key value for Bohler,” Wisotsky said. “This cornhole tournament allows us to bring together our extensive network, which often creates opportunities for our clients and partners. People know that they’ll meet someone worthwhile at this event.”
