The popular mixed-use development in New Brunswick known as The Yard @ College Avenue just got a bit more popular thanks to its newest addition — an eight-foot-tall bronze statue of a Rutgers University Scarlet Knight.
Representatives from New Brunswick Development Corp., the developer of The Yard, joined Rutgers officials last week to hoist the 9,000-pound monument as part of the annual Rutgers Day celebration. The statue, which sits atop a granite base, now greets visitors, students and other members of the Rutgers community who venture to the complex at College Avenue and Hamilton Street.

Devco and Rutgers opened The Yard last fall, delivering 160 new apartments for undergraduates and some 15,000 square feet of retail space. At the center of the 14-story, U-shaped apartment building is a 25,000-square-foot public green space and a 320-square-foot outdoor LED monitor.
The roughly $90 million project is one component of a historic makeover at Rutgers’ College Avenue campus overseen by Devco over the past several years.
