A developer has secured local approvals to build a new 20-unit apartment building with commercial space in Jersey City’s Heights neighborhood.
The Middletown-based firm, Blacksmith Development, says the project at 3516 John F. Kennedy Blvd. will rise at a busy five-corner intersection, with completion slated for spring 2022. Plans call for a mix of one- and two-bedroom units as large as 1,046 square feet, the firm said, along with 1,741 square feet of retail space, a 1,500-square-foot rooftop amenity space and an 1,800-square-foot green roof.
Devino Aiello Architects designed the project, which will feature brick and aluminum panels that are meant to segment the building skin while also unifying the façade, the developer said. According to Jersey Digs, the property will occupy the southeast corner of Bleecker Street at the former site of a trophy shop.
“It was a challenge to get a 20-unit five-story multifamily structure approved in a two-family zone,” Jason Celik of Blacksmith Development wrote in an email. “We attribute the project’s success to several components. Mainly it was about listening to the community and checking as many boxes as possible.”
