The Hampshire Cos. has unveiled plans for a new 70-unit apartment building in the Bergen County borough of Allendale.
The Morristown-based firm said the project, located at 220 West Crescent St., is slated to be complete in the second quarter of 2024. The finished product will provide residents with a location less than a half-mile from downtown Allendale and a short drive from Route 17, plus amenities such as a clubroom, storage, a lounge and a 9,460-square-foot outdoor courtyard.
The mix of one- and two-bedroom homes will include six units designated as affordable housing and three for first responders.
“Through harnessing our deep experience in working collaboratively with local governments and stakeholders, we continue to be a trusted partner to municipalities who are looking to tap into the value of their real estate to create spaces that meet the needs of their local communities,” said James E. Hanson II, CEO and president of The Hampshire Cos. “Our work in Allendale is emblematic of our singular vision of consistently transforming possibilities into opportunities to better serve our communities, and we are excited to bring our vision to life over the months to come.”
Designed by DMR Architects, the 104,620-square-foot community will be a new addition to Hampshire’s growing multifamily holdings in northern New Jersey, the firm said. It’s also Hampshire’s latest investment in Allendale, following its 2021 acquisition of the land at 220 West Crescent and a neighboring 114,500-square-foot industrial building at 230 West Crescent St.
Following the deal, the firm completed a major renovation to bring the previously vacant industrial building to full occupancy in early 2022.
“DMR worked with Hampshire and the township to create a design that would ensure aesthetic and proportional cohesiveness for a development that serves many important functions,” said Kurt Vierheilig, director of design and partner for DMR Architects. “We are excited to see this lively, functional and beautiful development come to life in a way that is meaningful to the Allendale community.”
