A new 126,000-square-foot self-storage facility has come to Woodbridge as part of a project team that includes Wall-based Tokarski Millemann Architects, the firm announced.
According to the practice, which worked alongside self-storage architect Butz Wilbern of Falls Church, Virginia, and an undisclosed developer, the Metro Self Storage complex opened its doors this past summer . Matawan-based 3D Group served as the contractor for the climate-controlled property at 501 King Georges Road, which includes a four-story main building and two one-story exterior access unit buildings comprised of an additional 3,250 square feet.
The design uses a combination of glass and aluminum curtainwall, cultured stone, architectural ground face masonry, stucco and Kingspan horizontal ribbed insulated metal panels, Tokarski Millemann said. The steel frame design allows the use of cantilevers for the upper floors to take advantage of area over the drive aisle to gain additional net rentable space, while two full-service, 4,500-pound capacity elevators and three egress stairs service the main four-story building.
Meantime, the front and rear of the building both feature 18-foot canopies to shield patrons from the elements while loading, according to a news release. All told, the facility provides 58 exterior access units for those who require frequent and direct access to their units, along with 32 handicapped-accessible storage units in a variety of sizes.
Colliers Engineering and Design provided civil engineering, while KEA Engineering provided MEP engineering.
