Brokers with JLL are marketing the space that was the longtime home of The Newark Club, the popular gathering spot for New Jersey’s business and political power players for nearly 25 years.
Measuring 22,000 square feet, the space sits at the top floor of One Newark Center, a 22-story tower in Newark owned by an affiliate of The Praedium Group LLC and Mack-Cali Realty Corp. JLL is offering the space for lease by office tenants, following the closure of the private club and its signature Metropolitan Room earlier this year.
“The Metropolitan Room once hosted long lunches where entrepreneurs laid their plans and politicians shook hands,” said Brian Lindenberg, a vice president with Praedium. “This is upscale office space that has never before been available for lease. The top floor of One Newark Center is ideal for a major corporation looking to tap into the revitalization of Newark.”
The 423,000-square-foot tower sits on Raymond Boulevard between McCarter Highway and Mulberry Street in the heart of Newark, just one block from historic Military Park and one block from Newark Penn Station. JLL touted the city’s continuing resurgence as a draw for prospective tenants, from the newly rehabilitated Hahne & Co. building to the new Grammy Music Experience at the Prudential Center.
The JLL team overseeing the assignment is led by Jonathan Meisel, Chris Conklin and Conor Dolan. The team has been working closely with Lindenberg.
Amenities at One Newark Center include a full-service café featuring an outdoor patio and an on-site parking garage for 945 cars, according to a news release. The office building is close to Newark’s central business district, providing tenants with a mix of retail and restaurant options, plus cultural attractions such as the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and the Prudential Center.
“The transformation of Newark is very exciting,” Meisel said. “I’ve been working in this market for more than 25 years and the energy here has never been stronger. I cannot wait to see what the next few years bring for this vibrant city.”
Ownership has also hired JLL to sell floors six through 22 of the building, seeking to capitalize on the recent momentum in the city. Other recent projects include the renovation of Military Park, Prudential Financial’s new 20-story office tower on Broad Street and the now under-construction apartment high-rise known as One Theater Square.
