A specialty grocer is expanding its footprint in central New Jersey with a nearly 16,000-square-foot lease in South Plainfield, in deal arranged by Levin Management Corp.
The operator, Tropical Supermarket, is backfilling a former Bravo supermarket space at the 30,300-square-foot Clinton Corners shopping center. The new location at 1225 West 7th St. places it less than three miles from Route 22, while it joins tenants such as Burger King, T&J Fish Market and a host of local merchants.
LMC Senior Leasing Representative Vanessa Fernandez-Kelty arranged the 15,800-square-foot lease, which maintains Clinton Corners’ full occupancy.
“As an essential retail category and one that has proven to be Internet-resistant, grocery is a significant element for any shopping center,” Fernandez-Kelty said. “The South Plainfield community has long benefitted from the convenience of a supermarket anchor at Clinton Corners, and it is welcome news — both for local residents and the center’s in-place tenants — that Tropical Supermarket has chosen to locate here.”
In announcing the deal, the real estate services firm said Tropical Supermarket has an established presence in New Jersey. The transaction marks its second with the grocer, a longtime tenant at the LMC-managed Hamilton Street Center in Franklin Township.
Clinton Corners serves a growing residential population of more than 136,000 people with an average household income of $101,000 within a three-mile radius, LMC said.
