Vango Development is set to expand its footprint in Bergen County after breaking ground on a new 86-unit luxury apartment building in East Rutherford, the firm announced Monday.
The developer, which has built 112 rentals in neighboring Rutherford, said it’s planning a June 2026 delivery for the project at 263 Hackensack St. It’s moving ahead with a new $25 million construction loan provided by ConnectOne Bank, which closed in January 2025, paving the way for the five-story building known as The Parker East that will also include 1,100 square feet of street-level retail space.
“The Parker East reflects our ongoing commitment to thoughtful residential development in well-connected communities,” said Van Golemis, CEO of Vango Development. “We’re excited to begin construction on this project, which continues our investment in Bergen County and builds on the strong response to The Parker mixed-use properties in neighboring Rutherford.”
Designed by MHS Architecture, The Parker East will be a short walk from the Rutherford train station and the borough’s mix of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues, according to a news release. Plans call for a prominent corner entrance at Hackensack Street and Winter Place, which will be accented by a decorative trellis structure, while a dark brick base and clean contemporary lines will anchor the design with an architectural palette that reflects the scale and texture of neighboring town centers.
Renters at the collection of one- and two-bedroom homes will have access to amenities such as a modern fitness center with both cardio and free weight zones, a fully furnished lounge and clubroom and a lobby with lounge seating, breakout work areas and on-site management, the news release said. The building will also have a dog spa and covered garage parking, while Vango will offer a rooftop terrace with grilling stations, dining areas and lounges with views of downtown Rutherford, the Meadowlands and the New York City skyline.
“The design of The Parker East embraces its role as a gateway to East Rutherford,” said Bruce Stieve, a principal of MHS Architecture. “From its strategic corner entry to its elevated rooftop amenities, the building was conceived to be experienced from all angles, whether walking from the train, driving along Route 17 or stepping into the building’s light-filled interior spaces. The materiality, scale and programming reflect a deep understanding of both the site and the lifestyle expectations of today’s residents.”
ConnectOne Bank President Elizabeth Magennis and Managing Director Bill Tierney spearheaded the lending team. The Taylor Lucyk Group with Christie’s International Real Estate will oversee leasing for The Parker East, while Coli Construction is the project’s general contractor.
“We’re proud to be entrusted by Vango Development to carry out their vision for The Parker East,” said Jeff Hart, a senior project manager at Coli Construction. “This is a well-planned, design-forward building, and we’re focused on delivering a high-quality execution that reflects the standards and attention to detail they bring to every project.”
The project follows Vango’s successful development and lease-up of The Parker in neighboring Rutherford. Made up of two boutique rental buildings at 118 and 106 Park Ave., the project has infused a stretch of the downtown just two blocks from NJ Transit rail service, comprising 112 units with resident amenities and 8,000 square feet of retail space with tenants such as Steven’s Café, The Salad House, Ferretti Salon and Song’E Napule.
