A global commercial real estate due diligence advisory firm has expanded its foothold in the region with the acquisition of an East Brunswick-based environmental consulting team.
Nova Group GBC, which is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, said the addition of Peak Environmental provides it with more than 30 experienced experts in the field, including seven with the critical Licensed Site Remediation Professional designation in New Jersey. The companies announced the acquisition Thursday, noting that the deal significantly strengthens Nova’s presence in New Jersey, New York and surrounding areas, while adding to its menu of turnkey services for commercial real estate clients in those markets.
Terms were not disclosed. Peak, led by Founder and President Kenneth Nieuwenhuis, has some 25 years of experience in the region.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Peak team to the Nova family,” said Steve Cummings, CEO of Nova Group GBC. “From our first conversations with Ken, (Eric Schlauch) and the team, it has been clear that we share many common values and goals, including retaining and growing the outstanding Peak staff. Peak’s leadership group has carefully built a quality team of professionals and a robust list of loyal clients in their market.
“With seven LSRPs among their environmental and remediation professional staff, Peak is uniquely qualified to help Nova support and sustain its U.S. and international growth and service expansion strategies. In addition to growing their already thriving business, the Peak team will now be available to complete full investigation and remediation projects when Nova identifies liabilities while performing Environmental Site Assessments for our clients.”
This acquisition follows Nova’s October acquisition of Chicago-based Carlson Environmental.
“Our success made it apparent that a growth and continuity plan for the next 25 years and beyond is required,” Nieuwenhuis said. “We ultimately came to this agreement because Nova is a clear fit for us in terms of culture, ethics and the opportunity for Peak to maintain its identity and self-direction with the support and benefit from the additional resources and global market reach they’ve established.”
