PROJECT SPOTLIGHT
As part of L’Oréal USA’s strategic growth initiative, the international cosmetics giant is building a new Research & Innovation (R&I) Center in Clark, NJ. AKF provided MEP/FP engineering for the $140 million state-of-the-art development that encompasses 158,000 square feet of new construction and a gut renovation of approximately 93,500 square feet. The campus replaces existing facilities L’Oréal has occupied for over 60 years and will serve as the R&I epicenter for L’Oréal’s North American scientific teams, bringing together over 550 employees across product innovation, development and testing divisions.
To help reinforce the company’s “L’Oréal for the Future” sustainability commitment, the R&I Center was designed to focus on lowering energy consumption, resource utilization and waste production. New laboratory spaces were carefully designed to support a variety of flexible R&I tasks, enabling diverse research efforts and accommodating multiple teams. The facility marks a significant step forward for L’Oréal, advancing innovations through pioneering work in fields like Green Sciences and Beauty Tech. Furthermore, it positions L’Oréal at the forefront of beauty and cosmetics research and development and allows them to continue providing the highest standard of quality, efficacy, and safety for consumers.
