A development team has unveiled a six-story, 39-unit apartment building in Jersey City as the latest addition to their footprint in the historic Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood.
Leasing is now underway at what’s known as Starling, at 66 Monitor St., where Alpine Residential and Fields Grade have preserved the façade of a century-old building as part of the boutique property. The developers now expect to welcome their first residents as soon as next month as they market floorplans ranging from studios to three-bedroom units, while also touting new street-level retail space that will house two food service operators.
Monthly rents for the apartments start from $2,690, with incentives.
“Starling caters to those desiring a more intimate living experience while still enjoying a robust suite of amenities and all that Bergen-Lafayette has to offer,” said William Rosato, managing partner of Alpine Residential. “The property is also infused with the local culture, displaying an art collection that captures the imaginative spirit found on the streets of Jersey City.”
Located about a half-mile from Liberty State Park, the project is Alpine Residential and Fields Grade’s latest in Bergen-Lafayette. In December, the partnership launched preleasing for 169 new rentals at 270 Johnston Ave., the site of what’s known as Atlas.
They noted that Starling, designed by GRT Architects, goes beyond the preserved building façade with a double-height lobby that has reclaimed trusses and wood finishes salvaged from its original structure. The elements were also repurposed to craft furniture found throughout the property’s common spaces, they said, while the building’s collection of artwork will showcase Jersey City’s street art scene and books from local authors.
Amenities include a rooftop lounge, an outdoor dining and seating area, a modern fitness center, coworking spaces and a golf simulator, according to a news release. Residents will have access to a host of on-site services and Bergen-Lafayette’s selection of recreational spaces, small businesses and proximity to downtown Jersey City.
Meantime, Starling’s street-level retail spaces will soon be home to MochiDough/BoberTea, a premium Japanese donut and bubble tea shop, and The Roxy, a new venture from some of the team behind Corto in Jersey City Heights. Alpine’s affiliated management company, South Oxford Management, is spearheading the building’s leasing program and management.
