The team behind a 477-unit luxury apartment complex that’s under construction in Jersey City has unveiled plans for a second phase, one that would bring another 357 units to the area.
Known as West Side Square, the project is taking shape at the corner of Broadway and West Side Avenue after breaking ground in late 2023. Plans call for a mix of homes ranging from studio to three-bedroom units, upscale amenities for residents and street-level retail space, with completion slated for fall 2026 as its developers look to activate a site that is less than a mile from the Journal Square Transportation Center.
The Toronto-based West Side Square Development Fund this week said the first phase will be known as The Residences at WSS. A second phase, The Factory at WSS, is pending approvals but would preserve the facades of an original factory from 1911 as part of a plan that would bring the full project to 834 residential units, 16,275 square feet of combined retail space and a pedestrian-friendly outdoor piazza with cobblestone walkways and public event space.

The development team is a partnership of Lanterra Developments, Westdale Properties, Lantree Developments and Altree Developments. MHS Architecture has designed the project, which will redevelop a site that once housed Puccini’s restaurant, while Sordoni Construction Co. serves as general contractor.
Leasing is set to begin next spring, the developers said, seeking to lure residents with amenities such as a rooftop with a pool and lounge spaces, as well as a modern fitness center, a yoga room, a podcast room and pet-friendly spaces. Plans also call for a lobby café shop.
